It was September 22, 1994, when the world was introduced to an amazing series. Little did we know that we will be hooked and how! For over 10 years, F.R.I.E.N.D.S became our go-to every other week. The laughter fits, the tears we shed, the aww moments we loved, the amazing invisible bond we developed with the characters (each one of them) and, of course, how our brain just registered those one-liner jokes to relay, F.R.I.E.N.D.S became more than just a TV series and when it finally ended on May 6, 2004 (yes, it has been 11+ years), there was not set of eyes that didn’t shed a bucketful of tears that evening when The Last One ended and credits rolled. And there on, all we are doing is watching reruns and wishing the gang would come back for just one more episode but that’s too much to ask for, we guess.
Read on while playing the F.R.I.E.N.D.S theme “I’ll Be There for You” by The Rembrandts and feel the magic all over again.
1. The One With A Great, Involving Script
The best about F.R.I.E.N.D.S is its extremely well-written script. It is funny, engaging in its unique way and full of surprises. It does get predictable once in a while but those are some happy-go-lucky moments that, despite your guesses, make you smile when they finally happen. From heartbreaks to weddings to just sitting at Central Perk with a lot of time in hand, the gang of six slowly makes a place in your heart, the one you shall never part with. Ross, Rachel, Phoebe, Joey, Monica and Chandler become your best of friends even before you know it.
2. The One With Some Of The Best On-Screen Romances
If you have seen this series, you very well know what we are talking about. F.R.I.E.N.D.S saw some of the most beautiful pairings and on-screen electrifying romances of all time. The Ross-Rachel saga goes on right to the very last episode and… Let’s skip the spoilers, eh! There are some people who would want to finally watch this! There is so much love and affection between them all that you can’t help but absolutely adore each couple. Yes, we all have our favorite ship but let’s not compare. Every love story was unique in its own way and we love F.R.I.E.N.D.S for giving us Relationship Goals since 1994.
3. The One With The Best Friendship Ever
What’s F.R.I.E.N.D.S without its soul system- Friendship. There were mini-gangs somewhere in there, some relationships and above all, this larger-than-life gang of six in their mid-20s. Each of them has something unique that tugs your heart and makes a home in there, forever. Up till 3-4 seasons we all have favorites but as we gradually get to Season 8, 9 and 10, we find that we can’t really choose. The last episode should have strict watching instructions: Keep as many boxes of tissues around as you can. Frankly, we still can’t believe it’s over! (been saying this line since 11 years now) It almost feels like we were a the 7th add on to that gang of six.
4. The One That Keeps Going For 10 years And Still Leaves You Wanting For More
10 years a long, long time for something to be a part of your life. It was around when we were growing up and hence has been a big chunk of our childhood and we all know how dearly we clutch our childhood to our hearts, never letting go. In May 2004, when F.R.I.E.N.D.S ended, it was like giving away something that we have grown up with, like our favorite toy. Maybe that’s why even if there are rumors of F.R.I.E.N.D.S reunion, we are glued to that news for days! Recently, the F.R.I.E.N.D.S cast (minus Chandler; Matthew Perry, could you BE any busier) met for director James Burrows’s tribute, we couldn’t help but be ecstatic! So many Facebook tagging happening over this one. After all, 80% of our friend list is F.R.I.E.N.D.S fan!
5. The One With The Best Bromance
This was way before the word bromance existed. Thank you MS Word for the spelling prompt, are you from 1994 as well? But we digress. Not only F.R.I.E.N.D.S had some of the best girl-boy romances but also some serious brotherhood between the male cast members. Chandler and Joey are roommates and best of friends. There are moments when you will find yourself moved by the bond they share. Ross and Chandler are mates from college and the flashbacks, that happen quite often, are hilarious. You will be left in splits. F.R.I.E.N.D.S lived true to its name in every way.
6. The One That You Can’t Help But Watch Reruns Of
F.R.I.E.N.D.S is played at reunions, sleepovers, Netflix & chill nights with your better half and is pretty much the first series most of our children will get to see (because we will make them see this one). As we write this, Season 3 Episode 07 (The One With the Race Car Bed) is playing in split screen. Oh yes, it adds more soul to this post, isn’t it! We don’t think any other series is ever going to get where F.R.I.E.N.D.S is and so reruns are our only refuge. Honestly, we know most of the dialogues by heart and even say certain things like the characters classic lines, but we will watch this series when we are in the 70s with our BFFs by our side because then it would have a whole new meaning. This never gets old.
7. The One That Made Us Laugh, Cry, Love, Appreciate and Miss
If the word Forever holds some meaning, this would be the reference point to take a cue from. We miss it for everything it stood for and everything it became over the years. On the first run, it seems amazing but when you watch the reruns, you know it has layers to it that shine brighter each time. There is something you kinda always missed watching and going back to it is almost as if it’s a fresh new episode.
Watch F.R.I.E.N.D.S if you haven’t seen it as yet! You are missing something really amazing that could happen to you.
