Now that the new trailer of FAN is out and we see something sinister going on in there, let’s refresh our memories to the times this dimpled, romantic, ‘I’ll-make-you-fall-in-love’ guy turned EVIL on-screen and scared the hell out of many.

Shah Rukh Khan (or SRK) has never ceased to amaze us with his electrifying performances. This self-made man has made it to the summit of the world of entertainment with no previous links or a godfather in the industry. It takes a lot of courage and determination to dream such dreams, the kind that most people shy away from in the early stages when they face stormy waters.

Shah Rukh is a risk-taker. Yes, we all love him as the romantic guy he is and how he woos Kajol and all his other co-stars but when it comes to playing the anti-hero, Shah Rukh doesn’t retrace his steps. These 6 movies are classic examples of where he owned the screen with his damn good, chills giving performances.

We are pretty sure you would have seen them. If not, it’s never too late for some good cinema.

[P.S. This post may have spoilers. Skip the ones that are on your ‘yet to watch’ list.]

1. Darr (1993)

What can go wrong with a star cast going Juhi Chawla, Shah Rukh Khan, Sunny Deol and Anupam Kher… right? WRONG! There he is, staring you in the face with that evil bloodied smirk, all of a sudden. But I am getting ahead of myself. It was a sweet start which takes an obsessive turn when SRK goes bonkers.

Did you know, even the perfectionist Aamir Khan chickened out of playing a negative role this early in his career. Aamir was offered Yash Chopra’s Darr which he passed on and recommended Shah Rukh Khan.

SRK made the most of it and such was the terror of the psychopath lover he played, that it still sends a chill down my spine when he goes ‘K..K..K. Kiran.’ I wonder how many Kirans were traumatized for life after watching this one.

2. Anjaam (1994)

I saw this one recently. I don’t know how I skipped this gem. You could call him a mental case in the previous one but here is the plotting expert. He is a strategic planner and murders people without breaking a sweat. Without divulging many details, I’ll say this one is a must watch if you have liked SRK in a gray or out-and-out negative role. He shines in this one. Also, don’t let the bhole bhaale songs fool you. Yes, ‘badi mushkil hai khoya mera dil hai’ is from this movie. And yes, this movie takes horrifying twists there on.

Shah Rukh Khan bagged the Filmfare ‘Best Performance in a Negative Role’ for this one.

Cue to self: Don’t ever, EVER choose Deepak Tijori over SRK. This man goes berserk and how! Iska Anjaam acha nahi hoga!

Watch this and don’t let his laughter fool you:

3. Baazigar (1993)

Let’s just cut to the chase here. You definitely have seen this one, haven’t you? Really? Not yet? WHY!!!

[SPOILER ALERT]

SRK is adorable in the first quarter when he is Ajay Sharma (those specs are back in style BTW, but I digress). He’s dating Madan Chopra’s elder daughter, Seema (Shilpa Shetty). And then… he is Vicky Malhotra, dating that same Madan Chopra’s younger daughter, Priya (Kajol). You HAVE TO see this one.

Trivia: Anil Kapoor, Akshay Kumar and Salman Khan rejected Baazigar because none of them wanted to play a baddy.

Thank you, all three of you. We all know where SRK took it from there. He won the Filmfare ‘Best Actor’ for Baazigar. The guy is unstoppable ever since.

P.S. Try NOT crying in the end. I should tell you, I bawled my eyes out.

4. Duplicate (1998)

Duplicate was a feel good movie compared to the three above. It had elements of comedy, goofiness (a classic SRK), romance and some real good songs. Juhi Chawla and Sonali Bendre played the female leads opposite Shah Rukh Khan and well, of course, another Shah Rukh Khan. One’s a cute, budhu chef and the other is a criminal. You will love Farida Jalal as bebe.

SRK’s role as the villain won him Filmfare nomination for Best Villain.

This song was a rage when it came out. Watch this:

5. Hum Tumhare Hain Sanam (2002)

Yes, I am that person who watches every SRK movie just because. Don’t judge me, okay! It had Salman Khan and Madhuri Dixit too. And… Aishwariya Rai. I bet you didn’t know that last one, did you? [evil laugh]

So, SRK is Madhuri’s husband and Salman bhai is her best friend (I repeat, friend; not bhai). Her closeness with her buddy is not taken well by hubby dearest and this gives rise to the bad SRK. Not as bad as all the aforementioned movies but still, you won’t like him in this avatar. He ain’t the usual romantic, happy guy so… Hence, this movie joins our list.

6. Don (2006) and Don 2 (2011)

Usually, when remakes are made, there is a huge comparison and the new one somehow fails to meet audience expectations and bombs. C’mon, we are talking about Amitabh Bachchan starrer 1978’s Don. That one is a classic. No one thought SRK would do justice to the role, leave alone make a mark. Guess what, he did!

The 2006’s Don had a tiny little surprise attached [watch to know; no spoilers]. It makes it all the more interesting and threw open the field for its 2011 sequel. Priyanka Chopra, Boman Irani, Arjun Rampal, etc. made it a great movie, all in all.

SRK was back being bad and we loved it.

7. Fan

Breathe, human, breathe!

Ever since the second trailer is out, I have basically bombarded my friends on Whatsapp, forcing them to watch it! I am a crazy fangirl and that is perfectly alright in the world where Fan exists. Damn! This looks like something I have been waiting for, ever since Darr.

FAN looks promising. The trailer manages to give you all the creeps that an obsessive lover or stalker can. Watch Shah Rukh Khan in and as FAN!

April 15, y u no come sooner?
